The campaign to stop an 112 foot high wind turbine in the open countryside at Shavington has succeeded. The planning application was refused in September but an appeal hearing was heard in the Municipal Buildings in Crewe on the 15th February 2011.
Cllr Brian Silvester said, "Cllr. Simon and myself worked very closely with local residents and the Parish Council to get the original application overwhelmingly refused by the Southern Planning Committee of the Cheshire East Council. Strong representations were made at the appeal hearing and we are all delighted that the appeal has been rejected. The proposed wind turbine would have been a blot on the landscape that would have been visible for miles. This has been a real 'David and Goliath' battle and it good to see that the little man can defeat the big battalions if they present a good case and campaign effectively. The residents and the Parish Council, along with their Borough Councilors, have fought a campaign that is a model of its sort and everyone should be congratulated."
Councillor Margaret Simon says;
"This is exactly the decision we wanted, it is a great example of 'People Power'. Residents must never be afraid to stand up for themselves when they feel strongly about an issue that will affect them. I congratulate everyone who has been involved in this campaign to have the Wind Turbine application rejected."
