Apprentice wanted and on-call firefighters wanted

This is a message sent via The Neighbourhood & Home Watch Network (England & Wales). This information has been sent on behalf of Cheshire Fire & Rescue Service

Caroline Jones (Cheshire Fire, Administrator, Cheshire Fire)

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service is searching for new talent to join the exciting Step into Work Programme. Applications are now open for a Workshop Technician Apprenticeship.  See below for more information about this apprenticeship.

Workshop Technician Apprenticeship

This training opportunity will span over a period of two years and will offer the right candidate the chance to work in our busy Service workshops.

This opportunity will develop your skills to the highest standard in all aspects of vehicle maintenance and repair work, where you will be working on a range of vehicles including cars, motorbikes, vans, LGVs, fire engines and specialist Fire and Rescue equipment.

Although the role will be mostly physical and hands on, there is a certain level of administration that goes along with this so it is important to be organised, efficient and have basic IT skills.

As a Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service Workshop Technician Apprentice you will:

  • Receive a starting salary of £6503 per year

  • Attend College to achieve Level 2 NVQ in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair

  • Work for 37 hours per week (inclusive of time at College)

  • Be paid travel expenses to College

  • Be given 25 days holiday per year plus bank holidays

  • Have access to free driving lessons and support to pass both your theory and driving test

For an informal discussion regarding the role you can contact Phill Cooper, Fleet Services Manager on 01606 868840.

More information about this apprenticeship (Including a job description, general information and application form) can be found on the following page of the Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service website:
http://www.cheshirefire.gov.uk/jobs/current-vacancies/step-into-work-apprenticeship-in-workshops
Closing date for applications: Friday 19th September 2014 - Midday.

If successful at the first stage interview you will be required to attend a work based assessment on one of the following dates: Friday 3rd October 2014, Monday 6th October 2014 or Tuesday 7th October 2014.
