AGE CONCERN TO BRIEF COUNCIL ON FUTURE OF DAY CARE CENTRES

Representatives from Age Concern will, next week, brief members of Cheshire East Council on their plans to review day care centres.

The Health and Adult Social Care Scrutiny Committee, chaired by Councillor Brian Silvester, will meet on Thursday, July 1 (10am) at Westfields, Sandbach.

Cheshire East Council provides funding towards the day care centres which are organised by Age Concern.

Ken Clemens from Age Concern Cheshire will brief the committee on the organisation’s plans for the future.

Age Concern is aiming to move from community day service provision to a more personalised service via the ‘Supporting You’ service which offers more one to one support.

The Scrutiny Committee will be tasked with considering, with Age Concern, the needs of individuals and their families and how they can be best served in the future.

Day services are currently provided in Audlem, Middlewich, Church Lawton, St Stephens and three locations in Crewe.

Councillor Brian Silvester, Chairman of the Health and Adult Social Care Scrutiny Committee, said:

“This is an important and emotive issue for many people in Cheshire East. This is a meeting that the public and all interested parties can attend. Age Concern was invited because their proposal to close day centres has led to the concerns of residents being raised with Councillors. Age Concern should have an opportunity to explain their decision and their proposed alternatives in a public arena.”
