Call for urgent action to restore a village green to its former glory

Willaston and Rope Ward Councillor Brian Silvester is calling  for urgent action to restore a village green in Willaston to its former glory.

He said ,”I am calling on Cheshire East Council and Wulvern Housing to take action. I have been campaigning for action for over a year. More parking provision needs to be provided so that the green can be reinstated and protected. The residents  have had to live with this eyesore outside their homes for far too long.(See photo of Cllr Silvester, Dave Chan from the Highways Dept and two residents, on the cut up green) If more parking spaces were provided then the green could be restored  and the children could play safely instead of playing between parked cars. I managed to get some improvements done a few years ago with the provision of some parking spaces but car ownership has now increased and more parking places are now necessary The state of the green is horrendous. It is utterly ,utterly ghastly. This would not be acceptable in Wilmslow or Alderley Edge for five minutes . Residents in Circle Avenue have had to put up with this getting worse and worse year after year. One resident had a sale on his property but the potential buyers took one look at the green and walked away and who can blame them?

I now find out that last November  the Council could find £25,000 to provide parking spaces and maintenance of footpaths at Wardle Avenue on land that is not even owned by the Council. I have asked the Council explain where Wardle Avenue was in the waiting list for improvements compared to Circle Avenue but there has been no answer.. There is absolutely no doubt that Circle Avenue is far more in need of the improvements  than Wardle Avenue. I can only assume that the work done in Wardle Avenue on Wulvern Housing land was done because it was in the Ward of the Leader of the Council and not because it was a priority."
