Cheshire East Council’s Parent Partnership Service is holding an information day for parents of children with special educational needs who are preparing for their child’s move to secondary school.
Staff from Cheshire East will be there to offer guidance about applying for a school place and the arrangements available if your child has a Statement of Special Educational Needs.
A primary school Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (“SENCO”) will outline the work schools typically do to prepare children with additional needs for the move up to secondary school.
There will also be a secondary school SENCO on hand to explain how secondary schools deal with SEN requirements, including the roles of key staff and how parents and carers might work together to ease children into their new school environment.
Councillor Rachel Bailey, Cabinet member in charge of children and family services, who will be attending the event, said: “The move from primary to secondary school can be a worrying time for parents and carers of children with special educational needs.
“There is an understandable concern about how children will cope, so this session is an opportunity to offer support and practical advice on successfully making the transition to secondary school.”
The free event will be held on Monday, November 18 from 10am-2pm and takes place at St Peter’s Church Hall, School Lane, Elworth, Sandbach, CW11 3HU.
