Research by Willaston and Rope Ward UKIP Councillor Brian Silvester has revealed that on the 1/6/13 there were 285 empty homes in Crewe. He said," I am concerned that there are so many empty homes in Crewe when there are so many on the waiting list for housing. I am hopeful that the introduction of the charging of full Council Tax on empty homes from 1/4/13 ( with two exceptions, see below) will encourage owners to be more pro-active in getting the homes back into use. Also the Council have several other powers that they could use if they think an owner is wilfully keeping a property empty without any good reason.(See below) I hope these powers will be used if necessary."
