St Luke’s volunteers contribute 79,014 hours of time!

St Luke’s Cheshire Hospice is taking the opportunity to say a HUGE thank to every person who volunteers for them, in whatever capacity.

Siobhan Horton (Matron and Clinical Director), Andrea Fragata Ladeira, Dr Kate Smith

1-7 June is National Volunteers Week, a time for organisations across the country to come together and say thank you to everyone who gives their time to help others. St Luke’s can never thank volunteers enough.

Siobhan Horton, Matron and Clinical Director of St Luke’s, commented: “We are only able to provide the high quality of care that we do because of the dedication of hundreds of volunteers who give their time freely. St Luke’s Hospice has an incredible team of volunteers who make a real difference.”

Volunteers vary widely in age and background and are truly valued for their diverse talents, skills and commitment. The hospice, its patients and staff benefit from the involvement of volunteers through increased support, helping us to give care to our community members who are at a vulnerable time in their lives.

St Luke’s Commercial Director Andrea Fragata Ladeira commented “In 2012 our volunteers contributed 79,014 hours of their time.  This was equivalent to £488,000 if national minimum wage was paid, or a massive £754,000 at equivalent NHS salary scales. This is a truly remarkable service to St Luke’s.

“On behalf of everyone at St Luke’s we say a massive thank you to every single volunteer.

“If you would like to volunteer, we have a number of vacancies in our Hospice shops and cafes, on our red London bus known as The Frock Stop, driving patients to appointments, helping with one off events such as street collections, helping man our ‘win a car’ raffle, supermarket collections and bag packing.”
